FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A man sought for questioning in four homicides in Tennessee was found dead over the state line in Alabama, the apparent victim of a homicide himself, while one of his acquaintances was found dead in a separate location, authorities said Tuesday.
On Monday, authorities found three women and an 18-month-old boy slain at two different homes in Lincoln County, Tennessee, about 100 miles south of Nashville. Police have not revealed how they died. A 3-year-old-boy and an infant survived the slayings, officials said.
On Tuesday, Alabama authorities found the body of a man just across the state line from Tennessee. The man was Warren Vincent Crutcher, said Madison County, Alabama, Coroner Craig Whisenant. Crutcher was the 3-year-old's father, added Lincoln County, Alabama, Sheriff Murray Blackwelder.
In Huntsville, Alabama, meanwhile, police said Jeffrey Pope was fatally shot. Local news media identified Pope as an acquaintance of Crutcher. Authorities did not confirm the connection between the two men, but they are investigating whether Pope's death could be linked to the other five, Whisenant said. The coroner would not say how Crutcher died, but said it didn't appear to be a suicide. His body was found in the woods by utility crews, Huntsville television station WAFF reported.
Police had sought Crutcher for questioning in the Tennessee slayings, which were discovered after the 3-year-old boy called relatives saying he couldn't wake up anyone at his house, his godmother, Constance Winston, told WAFF.
Family members arriving at the house outside Fayetteveille on Monday found all the doors and windows locked, but were able to coach the child into opening a garage door. When they reached inside to pull him out, they saw blood and called police.
When authorities got there, they found 22-year-old Chabreya Campbell, and her 18-month-old son Rico Ragland dead. The body of 21-year-old Amber McCaulley of Huntsville, Ala., was also inside the home.
Hours later, the body of 21-year-old Jessica Brown was found in her home in Fayetteville. Her 2-month-old child was found unharmed.
"I cannot imagine. I cannot imagine. ... There's no reason for anyone to have done something like this," Winston said.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services had no prior involvement with Campbell, Crutcher or the children, spokeswoman Molly Sudderth said Tuesday. She said the slayings would lead DCS to open a case and, if needed, take the 3-year-old into state custody until permanent arrangements could be made for him.
Whats going in my city is this. A few days ago both of Crutcher's baby mommas was found dead and most of the kids too. Police put Crutcher on TV as a main suspect for the murders & BOOM his homeboy is found dead the same night and Crutcher's body was found the next night.
The police are trying to close this case discreetly by not acknowledging that Crutcher's friend is dead, and trying to toss Crutcher to the side as a suicide. The streets are buzzing with a different story completely about what happened and why, and it ain't nothing like how they are making it seem on the news.
Now the question I ask, is justice served? I won't say what I would have did if my sister, aunt, momma, etc... was found dead for no reason at all but is this case really being given a fair investigation? Anybody would want answers to why they have a  dead family member or loved one & when the authorities can't find that answer I think its only human nature to seek out an answer on your own. Voletta Wallace, Notorious B.I.G.'s mother, wanted answers to her son's murder & when the the police couldn't give her any she opened and funded her own private investigation.
Eye for an eye seems like the answer to this case but was justice truly served? I don't think so. To me, The police played a huge part in Crutcher & his friend's murder. How did they expect nothing to not happen to someone when they went on Television saying THIS DUDE DID IT, IF YALL SEE HIM TELL HIM WE LOOKING FOR HIM. Now everybody crying over the dead family member looking for him too & obviously the police didn't find Crutcher first. Around here the police will pull over a car & two more squad cars will pull up for no fucking reason at all just harassing people. It takes 3 police to give me a noise ordinance violation? Get the fuck outta here with that shit. I honestly feel that the police put a Green light on Crutcher's head. FUCK THE POLICE. When you take a job like that make sure that it is your passion & not just a paycheck. If you truly love being a cop & your job of helping people doesn't stop when your shift is over I salute you but if you just as crooked as the people you arresting I hope your vest don't work bitch you get fired & you have to find the right occupation for yourself. Now, I know the police aren't 100% for the blame but if they don't handle situations better things like this will continue happening as it always has. Y'all stay safe out there. Peace.
